Anthrocon 2014 journal
Well, I was going to write a chronological journal of my trip to AC14, but that would be more for my own reference and might be somewhat boring to read for others, as it was getting quite long. Therefore this journal will just hit the highlights of my visit. Link for my pictures is at the end.
Leostarr's Anthrocon 2014 convention highlights:
* Took the train this year. Arrived in Pittsburgh on Thursday, July 3 at 8:00pm.
* Went to the Westin gift shop first thing upon arrival and bought myself one of those black "rocking Pittsburgh" Anthrocon T-shirts. Yes! Finally got one; love the design on that shirt (I think it's the best design on any shirt they ever put out).
* This year I roomed with Provo Cheesebeagle, Tigris, and their friend Girs, on the 19th floor of the Westin hotel. And, there was a giant pretzel in our room!
* Fursuited a fair amount in my Leostarr partial, still without feet paws :(. I tried to get them done but there was still too much work to do on them and time ran out. Next year, hopefully I'll have a full suit as well. Despite looking the same as I did in 2012, I did have fun with the fursuiting!
* Watched the July 4 fireworks display over Pittsburgh from our hotel window on Friday night. Nice show!
* Visited the dealers' room Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It's one of my favorite things to do at the convention!
* Went through the art show. Did not bid on anything, as I had limited luggage space.
* As I was walking down the artist's alley (wearing my lion partial), an artist at one of the tables saw me passing by and called out, imitating Snagglepuss's voice, "oooo, it's a lion, like ROAR even." That was really funny; I like getting positive attention like that.
* On Friday an electrical problem developed in Leostarr's head, and I did not have a repair kit with me. Later that afternoon a fellow fursuiter graciously offered to help and immediately took time out of his schedule to effect a temporary repair, which lasted all the way through past the end of the convention. My sincere thanks and gratitude to Wood for helping a lion in need!

- Feline Friendly Furry Fiasco (meet & greet panel for cats, held both Friday and Saturday, made it to both)
- Uncle Kage's Story Hour (this year, joining Kage on stage, they also had musician Fox Amoore playing appropriate little keyboard runs during the story, and also a signer for the deaf.)
- Anthrocon Tonight (performance-oriented variety show)
- Dances (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday DD)
- ByCats4Cats Photoshoot

- Fursuit Parade (I walked with Kijani lion again, just like my last AC in 2012! There was actually a group of us lions walking together, so I found a pride!)
- Fursuit Character Development and Improvisation (by Cheesebeagle and Tigris. I participated!)
- Masquerade (the cute cheetah fursuiter Angela Cherrie and her spinning plates was my favorite act of the night! All were enjoyable. And I got a great seat to watch it all from as well.)
- Late Night Jazz (keyboardist Fox Amoore and singer Amadhia, with guitar/bass backup from Rhubarb and Alexander James Adams. Excellent! I came expecting some good music and was not disappointed!)
- Fursuit Dance Competition Finals
- Closing Ceremonies

* Something I did different for AC this year was to switch to 2 meals a day instead of 3. Lunch always seems to get in the way of some events I want to attend. So the plan was a big nutritious brunch each mid-morning, and then dinner in the evening. I did this every day at the con, and it worked out well.
* Dealer's room goodies: I bought a cute little black panther plushie (she needed a home). Also got several prints from various artists, Tani DaReal's beer coaster set & postcards, and 2 autographed CDs from musician Fox Amoore.
* Went to the Dead Dog Party on Sunday night, took lots of pictures there.
* My favorite new fursuiters from AC14 were:
- Angela Cherrie
- Ren Fuchs
- Lisa fox (Aoi Kitsune)
Of course there were many, many others I liked a lot, but these three made it to the top of my AC14 favorites list.
* Only problem this year was lack of sleep. I arrived at the con with a sleep deficit to begin with. I shared a bed and my allotment was too narrow, and therefore could not relax or sleep well. Too bad it wasn't until the last night when I figured out a solution for this- I pulled the heavy covers off the bed (which no one was using) and slept on the floor Sunday night (well actually Monday morning since I went to bed after 2:30am), and slept very well there until 6:30am (ugh!) when I had to get up to leave for the train. Despite this, I survived and I had a GREAT time at Anthrocon 2014! Woohoo!
And now, my pictures... all of my Anthrocon 2014 pictures have been uploaded to Flickr; album link is:

That's 82 pictures over the first 3 days, and 111 on the last day (with all the fursuiters that show up, the dead dog party is always a great opportunity for picture-taking)!

Yes, well technically the malfunction was an "open" connection & not a short, but it could have been a short if the loose wire had touched the terminal beside it. That would have blown the fuse, and have put me out of commission because I didn't have a spare. I was lucky, and thankfully the short didn't happen. Next time I will have a repair kit with me, along with spare fuses.
I believe that pre-reg opens sometime in November, as I remember. The hotel reservations open up in February 2015, and they go fast, especially the close hotels (like the Westin and Marriott Courtyard). I've found Anthrocon to be a well-organized con.
